La Serra del Vent 2025: chardonnay with its own address
4 November 2026 · sommelier.vi.cat

“A chardonnay.” Said like that, it sounds as though everything has been explained. It is rather like asking for “a restaurant”: we still need to know where, who is cooking and whether the menu contains more adjectives than dishes. La Serra del Vent invites us to start with the place.
Costers del Segre · El Vilosell on the map
El Vilosell lies in Les Garrigues, south-east of Lleida, and provides the local reference for these Tomàs Cusiné wines. Costers del Segre covers other areas too: this close-up shows neither its full boundaries nor exact vineyard locations.

Markers show reference towns, not vineyards. Sources: Tomàs Cusiné · Natural Earth.

The vintage in front of us
Finca La Serra del Vent 2025, by Tomàs Cusiné, is the white in this profile. The year 2025 is visible in sommelier.vi.cat’s photograph and the winery’s product title. The web address still contains “2018”, a small piece of digital history that does not change the bottle’s vintage.
The general technical sheet identifies a chardonnay from DO Costers del Segre, grown at La Serra: 0.8 hectares, northeast-facing, at 730 metres. This is information about the wine and its parcel; the document is not specifically identified as a 2025 harvest sheet.
A particular corner of Costers del Segre
The geographical reference is El Vilosell, in Les Garrigues, near the foothills of the Prades mountains. This is inland Catalonia, within an appellation bringing together separate, quite different landscapes. One bottle from this area cannot serve as the template for every white wine from Lleida.
La Serra adds precision to that map. The winery describes a steep slope and shallow soil with gravel, clay and silt components and calcareous sandstone. The northeast aspect and elevation invite questions about sunlight and the pace of ripening. They are not an automatic certificate of freshness: we also need to know the harvest and taste the wine.
Chardonnay is especially useful for observing the combination of vineyard and winemaking. It can produce very different styles; the name does not require everything to smell of butter or every bottle to have the same weight. Climate, picking decisions and cellar work all influence the result. A familiar grape can still tell us about a specific place.
The accompanying regional article widens the frame: it explains the seven zones of Costers del Segre and how to move from a broad appellation to a parcel such as La Serra without getting lost. A map should help you choose a glass, not require an entrance examination.
What we know about production, and what remains open
The general document linked by the winery describes maturation divided between amphora and oak. Before assigning its exact proportions, capacities or timings to 2025, confirmation specific to that vintage is still needed. Those details remain open for review, rather than being presented as a proven recipe for this bottle.
My tasting: body with something to say
I see a bright, pale yellow with green reflections. I find ripe apple and pear, apricot and a touch of grapefruit. Behind them are toasted notes, butter and pastry, with a subtle smokiness. The fruit still has a seat; the oak has not booked the entire table.
On the palate it feels silky, broad and substantial, with citrus acidity giving it energy. The impression is long and the finish leaves a chalky sensation. That is my way of describing a perception: it does not prove that limestone passes directly from the ground into the wine, or establish a particular winemaking technique.
On the wine list at Jiribilla
La Serra del Vent 2025 is on the wine list at Jiribilla, our restaurant in Barcelona. From El Vilosell to the table: a shorter journey than some chardonnay descriptions.

Sommelier’s note: start around 10–12°C in a generous white-wine glass. Roast chicken, baked vegetables or a fish rice dish are pairing ideas to assess at the table, not experiences already carried out with this 2025.
