I’m Hugo Rodríguez Perella. Behind @sommelier.vi.cat and Vikipedia is the same curiosity: understanding what is in the glass and making the explanation worth listening to.
Vikipedia is a personal educational blog about wine culture. At this stage it has no commercial activity: it offers no services, winery visits or bookings, and earns no advertising, sponsorship or affiliate commission income. References to wines and wineries are editorial.
This website has roots in Catalonia and an appetite for exploring the world. You will find wines, places, news and questions that tend to surface when someone opens a bottle. Some need a short answer; others need a map, sources and a proper conversation.
Careful research, relaxed conversation
I want newcomers to find an open door and experienced readers to find something worth their time. There will be humour and the occasional raised eyebrow. The facts, however, will need references.
Personal tasting notes are distinguished from winery information. If a vintage or detail is unconfirmed, we will say so. And if something needs correcting, we will say that too.
